THE TRD ARRIVES IN SALAMANCA

From the last 7th of February three Diesel Regional Train (TRD) in each way put in touch Madrid with Salamanca making use of the improving works of the rail that were done the last year between Avila and Salamanca thanks of the economic contribution of 2.000 millions of pesetas from Renfe, the Castilla and León Government, the Salamanca Government and the Avila Town Council, having as the first consequence an importan reduction of the time of the travel.


The TRD trains join Madrid and Salamanca in two hours an a half.



This new trains have involved an increasement in the tariffs that is compensated with the services offered in the new trains, selling of the tickets in advance, cheking service, restaurant, press, etc. Regional trains of Renfe has put in service a very complete plan of compensations in case of delays and bad services in the trains, as it done in the TRD networks of Galicia and Andalucia.

The train has a capacity of 126 passengers that could be extended to 630 seats, velocities until 160 kms/h because of the four motors designed for the XXI century rails. The T.R.D. is a project with a good structure that includes the last technological novelties and a project developed by Renfe, CAF and Adtranz, that is done in Galicia (September 1997), A Coruña-Vigo, Andalucía (May 1998) Sevilla-Almería/ Granada/ Málaga and Granada-Almería and Castilla-León (February 1999) Madrid-Salamanca.

Regional trains of Renfe wanted build a fast and cheap train for the passengers transport in the regional sphere, a light and safe train. The key is the material that must be very good both because of the weight and the resistence. The aluminium had these two characters, the structure of the boxes were be done with a light alloy. The CAF factories in Irun and Beasain and the one of Adtranz in Trápaga were the places where the project was done, thinking about the maintenance. The equipments are coupled to the structure in sectional modules, the motors, the cabs, the doors and all the electronic equipment.

When this process was finished, and with a hard quality control test, the work of the trains was checked. There were static proofs done in the factories and other proofs on the rails. The passengers are the most important thing and thinking of them Renfe finished the project with a good design of the coaches interior with all the details and the last novelties of fireproof materials.

Two sliding doors are in the access of the train, that have zones for smokers and not-smokers, air conditioned, automatic interior doors, WC (one of them has been design for disabled people). A public address system and four electronic indicators informs the passengers about the place in which the train is in each moment and the next stations. The corridor is big enough for the bags and the passengers and the seats are reclining ones with a table, magazine rack, etc.

The newest thing in the TRD is the front part of the train with a door where is the driving seat. The aautonomous composition motor-motor permits the assembly of five coaches. Five trains controlled by the engine drier from the cab with the assistance of a computer, five passable trains from the first to the last one. The computer system controls all the electronic items, testing the main elements of the motor, and, on top of all, the tasteful design completes the quality of this TRD. It is ready because of its technology to reach a velocity of 200 kms/h with active tipping for a bigger velocity and comfort on the curves.
