The spanish enterprise Railways of Narrow Line (FEVE) has new workhouses of maintenance some months ago, placed in El Berron (Asturias) and have been invested more or less 1,525 millions of pesetas.

The construction of this factory and of the new instalations added to FEVE in the just mentioned city from Asturias are the consecuences of the operation "Green Belt of Oviedo", whose objective is the construction of a new stretch for FEVE outside Oviedo city. To make it, it was necessary to eliminate the factories of FEVE in Santo Domingo, placed in the centre of the just mentioned city. For this, it was decided the construction of new stretch placed in El Berrón town.
The Ministry of Public Works has invested 1,525 millions of pesetas divided in the fabric building, the stationing rooms, the traction agents, the interior changes and the railway stretch.
Futhermore, they are eliminating the level pass in the Ferrol-Bilbao line by an estimate import of 216 millions of pesetas.
The MInister of Public Works, Rafael Arias Salgado, inaugurated the new factories of FEVE in El Berrón.
The work has a wide area of 48,000 metres, distributed like that:
*Building of the fabric: has a factory constituted by a central courtyard where is placed a transbordator cart that gives service to the activities that are developed in the factory. The wide area of the factory constituited by 10,868 metres and are divided in seven modules: a workshop of waggons, engines, wide area and zone of revision.
*Railway Stretch: the access is made through a line of connection that emphasizes the line Oviedo-Santander with the line Gijón-Laviana so that the entrance and exit of the factory can be made by both lines. The line is formed by a rail. The electrification has been made with the same catenary as the one used by FEVE in all their lines.
*Stationary Garages: have two garages to shelter the stationary lines of the railway material of FEVE. The two factory premises are semi-detatched and have four lines each one. The first of them, of 144 metres of length, are destined to the stational material (Transcantabric Turistic Trains). The second factory premises, with 152 metres long, are used to stationate the diary trains.
*Building of Traction Agents: the building has only one square floor of 15 metres, and is placed next to the head of the factory premises of the stationment. It has four rooms, a room for the agents, vestuaries and W.C.
