AFRAID OF FREEDOM
The search of died people finished the Thrusday 8th of October, with near 30 died bodies recovered, and we must add bodies destroied without name. All of that has taken place in a country with good infrastructures like Great Britain. This horrible Thrusday crashed in London two trains charged of passangers with the effect known by all of our.
How could it take place? Well, one fact: one of the trains belonged to the very private Great Western Trains; the other one, to the most private Thames Trains. Other fact: the company Railtrack -which is quoted on the Stock Exchange- takes in charge of the infrastructures, the maintenance of the rails and the systems of signing. In the middle, bad signings, saving in infrastructures and profit, very much profit motive.
All started with the politics of liberalizations made by Margaret Thatcher's tory Government. One after other were falling down the bastions of the, since then, very hard british public sector. The finishing touches were put by the liberalization of the British Rail, when the experts, specially those who are worry with the problems of the users, have started to detect a falling-off the quality in the services and in this way until the date of Thursday, 8th of October.
The reasons of the neoliberals who drove the liberalizations usually turn round that beautiful word: freedom. It seems clear the confusion between freedom and licentiousness is up to date. In the railway case, the english model has been showed until few time ago as an example to continue by the rest of the countries. Now, facts like this must think to all of us about where can carry a system of service based on the private interest, to the end of the entry ethics.
All of this must think specially to the spanish people, because in our country has been started the way to the liberlization of the railway lines. In its favour the adventages that can offer for the service the free competition, but the english example is enoughly illustrative about where can drive the called "economic freedom" -and the entry motive as the most important valour- when it isn't hard public control which could limit the consequences of the non-ethics in the world of the big businesses.
