Las locomotoras eléctricas serie 252 son máquinas universales de gran potencia, adaptadas tanto al remolque de pesados trenes de mercancías como de trenes de viajeros a alta velocidad (220 km/h).

Existen máquinas tanto de ancho de vía español, que circulan por la red normal de Renfe, como de ancho internacional, que remolcan trenes Talgo Pendular 200 del sistema AVE. Parte de estas locomotoras, diseñadas por Siemens, fueron construidas por dicha empresa en Alemania, el resto se construyó en España.

Electric locomotives serie 252 are great power machines, wich are addapted to tow heavy freight trains as well as high speed passenger trains.

There are machines with Spanish line gauge that can circulate by Renfe normal network but there are also machines with international gauge wich are normally used to tow trains as the Talgo Pendular 200 of AVE system. Some of this locomotives were designed by Siemens and buildt in Germany. The rest of them were buildt in Spain.
