INTERNATIONAL RAILWAY FORUM IN BARCELONA
Between days 6 and 8 of October of 2003 the International Railway Forum will
be developed in Barcelona, organized by the Railroad and Transport Forum.
The meeting, that will be celebrated as a Fair and Congress, will be carried
out in the "Palau de Congressos de Catalunya".
This Forum is born with the objective to constitute itself in a scope in which the companies of the railway sector in individual and the Transport in general, can show their technological advances, products and services, as well as make commercial contact with clients and suppliers..
The Fairs area it will count on the presence of the most important railways companies, in addition to the Generalitat and Ministry of Public Works. On the other hand, it will have the auspice of the Main Managment of Transport and Energy of the European Commission.
The Spanish Railways Foundation is holding the 18th "Railway" photographic competition.
This competition aims to encourage plastic creativity in all aspects of the railway (passengers, stations, trains, lines, bridges, tunnels, human aspects, urban, interurban and metropolitan transport, etc.) and will be governed by the following bases:
1. Participants and number of works
Each competitor may submit a maximum of three photographs related to the
world of railways, in the broad sense expressed by this competition. The
authors must present unpublished photographs that have not been selected
in the previous seventeen competitions or in any other contest. The photographs
may only be submitted by the actual authors.
2. Size and identification
Photographs may have one print on paper measuring a minimum of 24 x 30
cm. and a maximum of 40 x 60 cm.
Photographs must not be mounted or reinforced on card or passe-partouts, nor may they be submitted rolled up.
The title of the work and the name, surnames, address and telephone number of the author shall be stated on the back of each photograph. If a contestant wishes to compete for the Young Author Prize, they shall also indicate their age. Those authors who wish to participate under a pseudonym must attach an envelope containing their details inside; on the outside of the envelope and on the backs of the photos they shall only write the assumed names under which they are competing and the title of the work.
3. Presentation

cultura@ffe.es) up until 21 November 2003, indicating the 18th "Railway"
photographic competition" on the envelope and the number of photos
contained. For those photographs sent by mail, the postmark shall be considered
to be the date of submission.
4. Prizes
The following prizes have been established for all photographs, both colour
and black and white works:
First Prize 6,000 euros
Second Prize 3,000 euros
"Train time" 1,800 euros
Young Author's Prize 1,800 euros
Ten proxime accessit prizes of 300 euros per work have also been established.
A further 86 photographs will be selected, which will receive 30 euros each.
The "Train time" Prize will be awarded to the photograph that, in the opinion of the jury, best reflects the aspect we wish to emphasise in this 18th "Railways photographic competition".
Authors of 25 years old and under (in 2003) may contest the Young Author Prize, as well as the other awards established.
Each author may only receive one single Prize, although several of their works may be selected.
All prizes shall be liable for deductions contemplated by current tax legislation.
No prizes shall be declared void.
Prize-winning works shall become the property of the Spanish Railways Foundation, who may exhibit them publicly.
Both prize-winning photographs and those selected shall grant The Spanish Railways Foundation the reproduction rights, provided they mention the author and are aimed at cultural extension and promotion.
All authors awarded prizes shall have the right, together with a companion, to travel to the prize-giving ceremony, as well as accommodation for both persons attending the act.
5. Selection committee and jury
The Spanish Railways Foundation shall appoint a preliminary, qualified
Committee for selecting the 100 finalist photographs.
The jury, which shall make its unappealable decision on the 100 photographs selected, shall be formed by persons of recognised standing, one person acting as secretary and representing the Spanish Railways Foundation. The winner of the 17th "Railways" photographic competition" shall form part of the above.
The Foundation shall contact the authors selected before the final competition judgement, which shall be made in 2004.
6. Exhibition and catalogue
The Spanish Railways Foundation shall publish a catalogue and shall exhibit
finalists works in the places they consider of interest.
7. Return
No correspondence shall be maintained with non-finalist authors, except
for sending acknowledgements of receipt.
Authors may recover their originals from the Foundation personally or by delegating another person from 1 March to 31 May 2004; persons not resident in Madrid may request the return of photographs in writing in the same period; items shall be sent by ordinary mail charged to the Spanish Railways Foundation.
The organization shall take the greatest of care in the preservation and sending of the photographs, but shall not be responsible for any possible loss, theft or damage suffered by the above.
The organization shall have the power to resolve any eventuality not contemplated in the Conditions.
Participation in this competition involves acceptance of these Conditions.
2003: A NEW EDITION FOR THE CERVANTES TRAIN
All Saturdays and Sundays, between the 12 of April and the 22 of June and between the 27 of September and the 7 of December, "The Cervantes Train" will allow to enjoy a beautiful trip by the most representative places of Alcalá de Henares, in Spain.
The train leaves from Atocha, the station of suburban trains of RENFE in Madrid, at 11,00 AM, there, the passengers are taken care of by the stewardesses dressed in period customes inspired by the Century of Gold. In the course of the trip, as it comes being habitual, a group of actors represents small theater pieces inspired by the Literature of XVIII century.
The trip includes a guided visit to the most representative and characteristic monuments of the city. Adult´s fare is 14 euros and for the children the ticket cost 9 euros.
